Matheus Ferreira is a biologist with a masters in History of Science and Epistemology, currently doing a PhD in Philosophy in the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. With a long interest in Evolutionary and Cognitive Sciences as well as Critical and Marxist Theories, he specializes in Complexity Studies through a transdisciplinary lens to evaluate paradigm shifts in societal, knowledge making and educational practices. He’s currently trying to bring some tools (and develop new ones) to somehow understand current claims in the ‘ontological’, ‘materialist’ or ‘speculative’ turns, in order to devise what could be called a “contemporary materialist philosophical landscape” in a broad sense. He is also a member of the organization Cybernetic Research Circuit (CRC), which is filled with Brazilian researchers of the New Centre – among others – where they have been focused on neorationalism, post-Sellarsian Marxism and (cybernetic) organization-theory as applied to political thinking.
